Liberals Plead Case To Block Keystone Pipeline

April 11, 2013

The Hill is reporting that a group of House Democrats, including DCCC Chair Steve Israel, met with Obama administration officials today to plead their case against the Keystone Pipeline.

“Republicans and centrist Democrats, with the backing of industry and some unions, want Obama to green-light Keystone. They say the project would bring jobs and oil from an ally.

‘But liberals — who comprise SEEC’s membership — want Obama to nix it. They, along with green and progressive groups, say Keystone would accelerate oil sands production that would harm the climate — a point SEEC members pressed often, according to those in attendance.

‘We’re a group of members in SEEC that’s very concerned about climate change, and we want to encourage the administration to push the envelope and take what actions they can,’ Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) said.”

As a recent poll showed, the Keystone Pipeline is as popular as ice cream and hugs. It’s popular because people (even many Democrats) see the real economic benefit for the country with the pipeline in place. It will create hundreds of thousands of jobs in the long run and set our country on a path to energy independence.

President Obama and been trying to wait as long as they can before making a decision on Keystone, but their hand may have been tipped recently after the DCCC hosted a fundraiser featuring Obama at the house of Tom Steyer. Steyer is a far-left environmentalist who is a vocal opponent of Keystone and led the fight to ban coal from the city of Los Angeles.

Some House Democrats are standing in the way of economic growth and energy independence by opposing Keystone. It’s time to send people to Washington who recognize the true value of this plan.
