3 Stories That Demonstrate How Obama Is A Problem For House Dems

July 19, 2013

Remember that old song “Take the Money and Run?” Well in recent days, it’s been stuck in our heads as we read about Obama’s plans to help House candidates in 2014. Being associated with the President is becoming so perilous for vulnerable Democrats, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama has no plans to campaign for them.

It’s gotten so bad, they’ve enlisted Joe Biden to recruit candidates, even though President Obama was supposed to do just that.

Apparently, they’re more than happy to take his money, organization, and voter lists, but would rather wait until Hillary is on the ballot in 2016.

1.      A White House Spokesman Admitted That Obama Has Trouble Campaigning With Democrat Candidates. “Nothing on the books now,” Josh Earnest, a White House spokesman, said when asked if Obama had plans to campaign on behalf of specific candidates.” (Politico, 7/17/2013)

 2.      Vice President Biden Has Been Calling And Meeting With Potential House Candidates. “Biden has also been an active surrogate for his party…The vice president has called and met with a small handful of potential House candidates, a Democratic source said, in hopes of persuading them to run in winnable districts.” (National Journal, 7/18/13)

 3.      Israel Reported A Serious Reluctance Of House Candidates To Run Without Hillary Clinton On The Ballot. “‘This is an interesting phenomenon right now,’ Israel told BuzzFeed in an interview Friday. “We have some recruits who say, ‘You know, I don’t know if I want to do it in ‘14, but if Hillary Clinton runs in 2016, I’m in.’’ Israel said he’s heard this from candidates ‘almost everywhere,’ but particularly in rural and former blue-dog districts where they ‘feel like it’s gonna be easier,’ he said. “And why is that? Because Clinton won those blue-dog districts when he was president.’ ‘It’s a huge dynamic,’ he added. ‘Their view is, I raise $4 million in 2014, put on my body armor, and go out there and fight it out — or do I just wait until 2016 and I’m Hillary Clinton’s running mate?’” (Buzzfeed, 6/10/13)
