Polls Confirm: ObamaCare Is a Ticking Time Bomb For House Democrats

July 24, 2013

Evidence is mounting that ObamaCare is a ticking time bomb for House Democrats running for re-election in 2014.

NRCC polls in two swing districts controlled by Democrats that President Obama won in 2012 – Minnesota’s 8th District and New Hampshire’s 1st District – found that ObamaCare is becoming toxic. From Politico:

“Forty-eight percent of respondents in the Minnesota district and 49 percent in New Hampshire said the law will worsen their health care. Only 14 percent and 19 percent, respectively, thought their care would improve.”

You read that right – while Democrats Rick Nolan (MN08) and Carol Shea-Porter (NH01) have voted time and time again to protect and preserve ObamaCare, nearly half of the voters in their districts believe the law will worsen their healthcare. Less than 20% believe the law will improve their care, meaning that less than a fifth of the voters agree with Nolan and Shea-Porter.

These Democrats are clearly out-of-step with the concerns of the voters in their districts, but its not just them. A new United Technologies/National Journal poll confirms that trend, finding that, by large margins, voters across the country do not believe that ObamaCare will help themselves, the middle class, their families, or the country overall.

“After all those developments, just 35 percent of those surveyed in the new poll said they believed the law will benefit “people like you or your family,” while 46 percent expected it would make things worse for them. That’s a decline from last September, when 43 percent expected improvement and 40 percent anticipated harm.

“Two other measures found even greater slippage. Just 36 percent of those surveyed say the law will “make things better” for the middle class, while 49 percent say they expect it will “make things worse.” That’s another steep decline from September, when 45 percent said it would help, and 40 percent said it would hurt, the middle-class.

“Likewise, the share of adults who say the law will benefit the country overall fell by a comparable amount. Last September, a 50-percent-to-39-percent majority thought the law would make things better, rather than worse, for the nation overall. But in the new poll those numbers have almost reversed: Just 41 percent expect benefits for the country, while a 48 percent plurality believe the law will make things worse.

Heading into 2014, the Democrats are in complete denial about ObamaCare. The DCCC is handing out “I Heart ObamaCare” stickers, and Democrats are routinely voting to protect Obama’s health care law. For House Democrats in 2014, it’s only a matter of time before the ObamaCare ticking time bomb explodes.
