Votes Against Funding For Aviation Inspections And Safety

WASHINGTON – In yet another blatant political maneuver that puts the public at risk, Rick Nolan today voted against funding for aviation safety.

Along with voting to extend President Obama’s government shutdown, Nolan is now also voting against common-sense measures that ensure that vital programs are funded. Minnesota voters shouldn’t have to worry about the safety of the airplanes they fly on. It’s time for Rick Nolan to stop the political games and work with Republicans.

“There’s no good explanation why Rick Nolan would vote against funding aviation safety and inspections,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek. “It’s yet another shameful vote for Nolan and a clear disservice to Minnesota voters.”

One-Third Of The FAA’s 46,000 Workers Are Still On Furlough, Including 2,000 Safety Inspectors. “With nearly one-third of the FAA’s overall 46,000 work force still on furlough, including more than 2,000 inspectors in its Flight Standards Service, agency and union officials expect further staffing increases to ensure adequate day-to-day oversight of airlines, repair facilities, pilot-training schools and other parts of the industry.” (Andy Pasztor, FAA Recalls 800 Safety Staffers Furloughed by Shutdown, Wall St. Journal, 10/8/13)
