Dem Rep. Mike McIntyre Calling It Quits

January 8, 2014

Democrat Congressman Mike McIntyre from North Carolina is retiring. Yes – you read that right.

It looks like after months of reports about McIntyre being unable to win his congressional seat in 2014, the veteran congressman was finally convinced that it was time to go.

Washington Democrats, including McIntyre, have had a rough go as of late due to the train wreck that is Obamacare. While McIntyre voted against the devastating law – the widespread implications for anyone associated with Washington Democrats was too toxic to overcome.

Mike McIntyre has been a target of the NRCC “Red Zone” program, a team dedicated to holding the most vulnerable Democrats accountable for their liberal records that don’t match their districts. Like McIntyre, RedZone Member Utah Democrat Rep. Jim Matheson called it quits weeks ago also because it was too hard being associated with Pelosi and Obama.

As you cover McIntyre’s retirement announcement, please consider the following quote from the National Republican Congressional Committee:

“Democrats are facing a harsh reality that because of President Obama’s signature domestic accomplishment, they will continue to lose seats in the House at a time when they can’t afford to. 2014 is already starting on a sour note for Washington Democrats and it looks like the pain train will continue well into November.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Katie Prill
