Obama’s Latest Budget: More Spending, More Taxes, More Of The Same

March 5, 2014

  • President Obama released his budget yesterday and it’s just more of the same.
  • It’s more spending, more taxes, and more political posturing from a president whose No. 1 goal is to win back complete control of Washington.
  • Americans want a balanced budget that pays down our unsustainable debt while growing the middle class.
  • President Obama should save his liberal wish list for Christmas time. Our country needs a common-sense path forward, not another lame duck budget.

President Obama Is Proposing An Additional $56 Billion In New Spending. “Yet Obama was proposing an additional package of $55 billion in spending priorities, half for defense and half for domestic programs.” (Alan Fram, “Obama 2015 Budget Focuses on Boosting Economy,” Associated Press, 3/4/14)

The Washington Post: “What We Already Know About The Upcoming White House Budget … More Spending” (Josh Hicks, “What We Already Know About The Upcoming White House Budget,” The Washington Post, 3/4/14)

The Budget Also Includes More Than $1 Trillion In New Taxes. “His blueprint includes a few narrowly targeted spending cuts, but relies primarily on more than $1 trillion in new taxes to slow borrowing over the next decade – with much of the burden falling on major businesses and the wealthy. Obama would also direct some of the proceeds to new road and bridges, universal preschool education and expanded tax credits for the poor.” (Zachary Goldfarb, “Obama Budget Seeks New Spending, New Taxes To Boost Economy, Tame Debt,” The Washington Post, 3/4/14)

President Obama’s Budget Is “Something Akin To A Partisan Opus.” “If budgets are political documents, President Barack Obama’s latest offering is something akin to a partisan opus.” (Zeke Miller, “Obama’s Budget Filled With Election Year Political Messages, Time, 3/4/14)
