Tricky Nick Rahall’s Cap-and-Trade Love – Day 1

May 5, 2014

War on coal

Everyone knows that Tricky Nick Rahall voted for a Carbon Tax, despite his continued attempts to lie about it. But that’s not the only anti-coal policy for which he has voted over the past 7 years. Tricky Nick has also been a consistent supporter of a coal killing cap-and-trade system.

For the next five days, we will highlight instances of Rahall supporting the kind of cap-and-trade plan that would make his anti-coal, out-of-state billionaire backers want to support his re-election.

Today we highlight Rahall’s 2007 vote for HR 2643, a bill that endorses a cap-and-trade system. Specifically, that bill stated:

  • “It is the sense of the Congress that there should be enacted a comprehensive and effective national program of mandatory, market-based limits and incentives on emissions of greenhouse gases that slow, stop, and reverse the growth of such emissions…” (Title V, Section 501 b)

That sure sounds like support for cap-and-trade!

NRCC Comment: “Tricky Nick Rahall is the worst politics has to offer – he tells voters in West Virginia that he is standing up for coal, but when he is ‘home’ in Washington D.C., he supports a cap-and-trade system and voted for a carbon tax. It’s no wonder why out-of-state, anti-coal billionaires are spending so much to support Tricky Nick’s re-election – they know that he’s a reliable vote against coal and for the Obama agenda.” – NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior
