ObamaCare Causes College Tuition to Rise

June 25, 2014

Instead of spending money on underfunded and understaffed student programs, the University of South Carolina will be forced to spend millions of dollars implementing ObamaCare on campus.

In order to pay for their new expenses, the university’s board of trustees voted to increase tuition by “3.2 percent – or about $171 per semester for in-state students on the Columbia campus.” As Obama touts the legacy of ObamaCare, the University of South Carolina students are beginning to learn the real legacy as their tuitions rise.

This fall semester, students will let their frustrations with ObamaCare be heard by electing a Republican leader to Congress who will repeal this flawed and costly law. College students deserve a Republican member in Congress whose conservative principles will make college more accessible and affordable.

From The Times and Democrat:

“Instead, USC will start FY2015 applying nearly $18 million toward the additional costs of state-mandated employee pay raises, health and retirement benefits, and implementation of the Affordable Care Act.”

“We are now at a critical tipping point,” said university President Harris Pastides. “The current trajectory is no longer sustainable for our students, parents and taxpayers. We must ensure all South Carolinians have access to an affordable college education and the opportunity to earn workforce-ready baccalaureate degrees. Our state’s future economic prosperity depends on it.”
