As Students Return to School, Tierney Should Get on the Bus

WASHINGTON – As another academic year begins, students across the country are returning to classrooms and campuses. In the spirit of the new school year, here’s a math problem for John Tierney to solve: our growing national debt.

Last week, the Congressional Budget Office announced the yearly deficit projection had increased to $506 billion. Meanwhile, our national debt is still astronomically high—currently standing at $17 trillion. Unfortunately, those kindergarteners heading to school this year will be paying off the fiscal recklessness of their parents and grandparents for years to come.

“Even middle school students understand that you can’t spend more money than you take in,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek. “But John Tierney continues to support Barack Obama and his costly economic agenda while adding trillions to our national debt. Washington has a spending problem and the first fix is to get rid of free-spending liberals like John Tierney.”

The CBO Announced The Yearly Budget Deficit Project Had Increased To $506 Billion.  “The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Wednesday raised its projection for this year’s federal deficit to $506 billion. The budget office’s last report in April had projected the deficit for fiscal 2014 would top out at $492 billion on Sept. 30.” (Rebecca Shabad, “CBO: Federal Deficit To Tick Up Over $500 Billion,” The Hill, 8/27/14)
