John Foust Won’t Cut Federal Spending

September 3, 2014

Wanted to point this out seeing the first VA-10 debate is happening right now. At a town hall event this week, John Foust was asked to name a few examples of what spending cuts he supports in Congress seeing his campaign literature says he wants to cut wasteful spending.

What was Foust’s response? Nothing! Foust couldn’t name one area out of the trillions in government spending that he thinks should be cut. Listen to it here.

QUESTION: “Your campaign literature says you want to cut wasteful giveaways, could you give some examples of what things are that you want to cut?”

FOUST: “Yeah the a—you have to get into the budget. I have—I’m on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors as I said and vice chairman of the Budget Committee and chairman of the Audit Committee and what I do—and I’m a numbers guy I sit down with the budget and I talk to people and we prioritize. We know what our resources are that we can—you know that we have. We’ve got to prioritize what we need and want and make sure it fits within those resources. So it’s a process. We’ve cut tens of millions of dollars out of Fairfax County budget and I was a leader in that effort. I’ve identified millions of dollars of, you know, unnecessary spending through the Audit Committee so I’m looking forward to going to Washington and making that same effort with the federal budget.”

But what would Foust cut on the federal level? Before you leave the debate today you should ask Foust why he can’t name one area that he would like to see spending cut.

NRCC Statement:“It’s not shocking that tax and spend liberal John Foust can’t name one area that he would like to cut spending. Remember, as Fairfax County Supervisor, Foust raised taxes and increased spending. Northern Virginia families can’t be fooled by Foust’s campaign rhetoric because in reality he will stand with Nancy Pelosi and vote for more government spending at every turn.”– Katie Prill, NRCC Spokeswoman
