Boots on Fire: Kirkpatrick’s Perks

September 9, 2014

Yesterday, Ann Kirkpatrick released a new television ad that is a wild misrepresentation of her record in Congress.Maybe she was hoping no one would pay attention if she released it late in the day.

Kirkpatrick claims we should give “perks the boot.” Really? Let’s look at the facts.

Kirkpatrick has treated herself and her allies to A LOT of perks while in Congress, and Arizona taxpayers are paying the price:

  1. Kirkpatrick actually voted AGAINST a measure that would prevent taxpayer-funded health care for life for Members of Congress. (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2014/roll177.xml)
  2. Kirkpatrick also voted AGAINST banning taxpayer-funded first class travel for Members of Congress. (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2014/roll177.xml)
  3. Kirkpatrick voted against requiring the President, Vice President and political appointees to go into the ObamaCare exchanges.  She also voted to against removing Congressional ObamaCare subsidies for herself and her colleagues in Congress. (Roll Call #504, 9/30/2013)
  4. Kirkpatrick snuck three campaign aides onto her congressional payroll after losing in 2010, and then doled out more than $100,000 in taxpayer bonuses.(Arizona Republic)
  5. Kirkpatrick missed 16 votes her first week back in Congress. She never explained why and is hoping Arizonans just forget.(Arizona Republic)
  6. Kirkpatrick voted to protect taxpayer-funded salaries for government bureaucrats even when they are under investigation for certain serious offenses. (Roll Call #436, 8/1/13)

NRCC COMMENT: “Ann Kirkpatrick is loving the perks of elected office. From missing votes to rewarding campaign aides with taxpayer-funded bonuses, Kirkpatrick is living it up on the taxpayer’s dime while Arizona families struggle.” – NRCC Spokesman Daniel Scarpinato
