What Gwen Graham’s E-Mail Didn’t Say

January 22, 2015

Photo of nine month baby crying, isolatedWell, that didn’t take long.  Earlier today, Gwen Graham sent out a campaign e-mail complaining to her supporters simply because the NRCC drew attention to her contradiction in yesterday’s edition of The Tallahassee Democrat

Here’s a quick refresher: Graham warmly embraces Barack Obama’s plan to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for “free” community colleges (that actually comes with a $60 billion price tag).  Graham then says she doesn’t support proposals by the President that raise taxes.  This brings up a legitimate question as to whether or not Graham supports the middle class tax increases needed to pay for the “free” community college.

Unfortunately, her e-mail made no mention of her position.  Gwen Graham can’t have it both ways.  Either she supports Barack Obama’s calls for a middle class tax increase or she does not.  Why won’t Graham be honest with the hardworking families of North Florida?  For someone who ran for Congress as your everyday person, she’s quickly on her way to being part of the politics as usual in Washington, D.C.

NRCC Comment: “Gwen Graham is simultaneously trying to support Barack Obama’s $60 billion plan for free community college while at the same time opposing the middle class tax hike needed to pay for it.  Gwen Graham needs to come clean to the people of North Florida by simply admitting her support of Barack Obama’s plan to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for $60 billion in more government spending.” -NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack

Below is the text of Graham’s e-mail:

XXX-

From day one, we’ve stood together in support of expanding the educational and vocational opportunities available to North Floridians and all Americans.

Today, our values are under attack.

The National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) – Boehner’s campaign slush fund who lobbed attacks at me throughout our campaign – is wasting no time in picking up the mud yet again.

Send a message to Speaker Boehner : no amount of name-calling or mudslinging can bully us into silence. Join our fight to give all of North Florida’s students a chance at higher education.

It’s the first attack of the 2016 cycle, but we know it won’t be the last. Boehner should be ashamed of this filth – that they’re attacking me for working with Republicans and Democrats to find common sense solutions.

Whether it’s community college or university, higher education is a proven key to success. Education and job training is key to helping North Floridians  improve their lives and prosper – we need to ensure it’s affordable and accessible.

Sign my petition today to send a message to Congress and Tea Party Extremists that we won’t be bullied on this issue.

Working together to make college more affordable is a common sense solution that puts North Florida first. There are almost 100,000 college students living in Florida’s Second Congressional District and I won’t stop fighting for them.

So please, XXX, sign my petition today

With much appreciation,

Gwen
