Scott Peters misleads on GITMO vote

May 4, 2015

This morning, Scott Peters deliberately misled San Diegans when he was asked on KUSI about his vote to allow detainees from GITMO to be housed on American soil.GTMO Peters

Last week, Peters voted to give President Obama the ability to house terrorists from Guantanamo on American soil, yet this morning, Peters ignored his voting record, only saying he wanted to see a “long term plan” for the detainees.

When further questioned about where in America the terrorists would be housed if Peters had his way, Peters gave a noncommittal answer, pivoting back to his platitudes about a “plan.”

What Peters neglected to mention was the language he supported failed to lay out a plan for what to do with the detainees, nor did it place any restrictions on where the President could relocate them.

Why did Scott Peters refuse to talk about his actual position? Probably because the 40,000 men and women in uniform in his district who risk their lives to fight terrorism would surely take issue with housing dangerous terrorists on American soil and in their communities.

NRCC Comment: “Scott Peters has resorted to misleading voters because he knows his record is out of touch with 52nd District families. With 40,000 active duty military members in his district, Peters has no choice but to mislead about his vote to give President Obama the ability to house terrorists on American soil.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
