Scott Peters’ GITMO Hypocrisy

November 11, 2015

HypocrisyAfter voting more than a half dozen times to allow President Obama to close GITMO and transfer detainees to U.S. soil, Scott Peters is now hypocritically trying to cover his tracks as the administration looks at MCAS Miramar as a potential relocation site. Peters has voted to with the president over and over and over and over again, standing by silently even as the DOD added San Diego as a potential site in September.

It took the imminent threat of an announcement by the Obama Administration and the San Diego City Council preparing a resolution condemning GITMO transfers to Miramar (that would later pass unanimously) to spur Peters into sending a hastily written letter doing the same just this past Monday! Peters was happy to toe the line and risk the safety of San Diego families for months until the political costs of silence grew too high.

Actions speak louder than words, and congressional votes speak louder than last minute letters.

“Scott Peters has consistently voted to allow President Obama to close GITMO and open up San Diego as a potential relocation site, but is now hypocritically trying to cover his tracks at the last minute. Actions speak louder than words, and San Diego families may now have to pay the price of Peters’ blind partisanship.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
