Some questions Brad Schneider and Nancy Rotering hope you don’t ask tonight

February 3, 2016

transparencyAs we all know, the IL-10 Democrat primary is kicking into high gear as both candidates ratchet up their rhetoric. But while Brad Schneider and Nancy Rotering are arguing over who can be the most liberal at the debate tonight, they’re also doing everything they can to avoid being transparent with voters on some very important topics. Here are a couple very specific questions for Brad and Nancy to which voters are anxious to learn the answers:

  • Nancy, this summer a non-profit organization, led by a former U.S. Attorney, filed an FEC complaint against you alleging that you illegally raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for your congressional campaign by soliciting contributions from donors months before you officially filed as a candidate.  The basis for the complaint is that you did not officially file as a candidate until March 18, but began collecting nearly $400,000 in contributions from donors months before that by falsely presenting yourself as an official congressional candidate, when in fact, you were not.   Did you present yourself to donors as a candidate to solicit contributions from them prior to the date you actually filed as a candidate, and if not, how do you explain raising all of that money from donors in the months prior to officially declaring your candidacy?
  • Personal financial transparency was a significant issue in the 10th District congressional race in 2014 and figures to be again in 2016.  Both of you have contributed your own money to your campaigns, and yet, unlike Congressman Dold, who has always made his personal financial disclosures public before the Spring filing deadline, both of you have sought an extension to delay releasing your own financial disclosures to the public until just weeks before the general election.  Don’t 10th voters deserve the same level of personal and financial transparency from you that they receive from Congressman Dold?

NRCC Comment: “Instead of just repeating tired liberal talking points, Brad Schneider and Nancy Rotering owe voters answers on some very important questions about how they are running their campaigns. 10th District families deserve transparency from Schneider and Rotering, not more political shenanigans.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
