Are Salud Carbajal and Nancy Pelosi threatening opponents?

February 4, 2016

SaludDid you see this report from the Santa Barbara Independent alleging “political intimidation, retribution, and behind-the-scenes maneuvering” by Sauld Carbajal and his allies during last week’s Democratic endorsement battle? Here’s more:

“Echoing the national momentum of anti-establishment candidates, Schneider, 45, alleged she faced political intimidation, retribution, and behind-the-scenes maneuvering to block debate opportunities since she announced her candidacy last April. Voters are looking for someone to speak about the issues, Schneider said, “not someone who is going to take orders from the Washington insiders.” Her supporters allege delegates were pressured to back Carbajal, 51, whose victory was deemed inevitable. Fears proliferated of splitting the blue vote, they added.”

It has been widely reported that Nancy Pelosi’s campaign committee is trying to muscle through their handpicked candidates in CA-21 and CA-25. But the allegations of “political intimidation, retribution, and behind-the-scenes maneuvering” in CA-24 are even more significant than anything previously reported. Despite a contested primary, Carbajal was endorsed by Pelosi last fall.

NRCC Comment: “These allegations of intimidation and retribution raise questions about how far Salud Carbajal, Nancy Pelosi, and their allies are willing to go to ensure Carbajal receives the party’s endorsement.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
