Will House Democrats stand with Clinton if she is indicted?

March 10, 2016

At last night’s debate, Hillary Clinton was pressed on her email scandal. The result? A series of dodges, lies, and outright refusal to answer tough questions.

Immediately after the debate, Politifact rated her claim that her predecessors “did the same thing” with their emails “Mostly False.”

Perhaps most notably, when directly asked by Jorge Ramos whether she would drop out of the race if the ongoing FBI investigation into her private email resulted in her indictment, Clinton refused to answer.

To date, Clinton has been endorsed by over 150 House Democrats. As the FBI’s investigation goes on, and an indictment becomes more and more likely, the elected officials supporting her flailing candidacy owe it to their constituents to tell them what they will do if Clinton is indicted. Will they stand by her? Will they switch their support to her socialist opponent, Bernie Sanders? Or will they follow Clinton’s lead and refuse to answer the question?

NRCC Comment:  “Hillary Clinton’s refusal to answer serious questions regarding her private email server in last night’s debate was shameful. As the possibility of criminal charges becomes more and more likely, House Democrats owe it to their constituents to answer whether they will break with Clinton if she is indicted, or if they will support a campaign potentially run from a jail cell.” –NRCC Spokesman Bob Salera
