DCCC Abandons “Emerging Races” program after embarrassing primary losses

This morning the DCCC announced that it was moving almost all of its candidates out of its “Emerging Races” program and placing them in its Red to Blue program.

While both programs have historically been incredibly unsuccessful, with last cycle’s crop winning just 4 out of 40 races, the “Emerging Races” program has been a train wreck, losing all 12 races last cycle. This year has been no kinder to those poor souls designated as “Emerging” by the DCCC. Earlier this month, “Emerging” candidate Bill Golderer lost by 50 points in his primary in PA-07, and just this week, Cory Simpson, the DCCC’s “Emerging” candidate in WV-02 lost his primary, garnering just 26% of the vote.

The DCCC responded to this latest failure by essentially scrapping the “Emerging Races,” moving all but two candidates to its Red to Blue program, while abandoning the flailing campaigns of dog-pampering tax cheat Melissa Gilbert and the unelectable Mike Derrick.

NRCC Comment: “The DCCC is hitting the panic button on its failed “Emerging Races” program after embarrassing primary losses by two of its candidates exposed House Democrats’ recruiting failures. The DCCC has failed to recruit viable candidates in districts across the country, and has no path to a majority.” – Bob Salera, NRCC Spokesman
