House Democrats Vote to Raise Their Own Salaries

June 10, 2016

Today, House Republicans passed the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act. This bill funds the operations of the House of Representatives, joint House-Senate items, and other legislative branch entities, including the Capitol Police. Included in this bill, which was opposed by House Democrats, was a continuation in the pay freeze for members of Congress.

As Americans continue to struggle in President Obama’s stagnant economy, House Republicans are leading by example. But Democrats think that they deserve a pay raise, despite their efforts to stall Republican attempts to get government spending under control and get the country back to work. While House Republicans continue to look out for American taxpayers, House Democrats are looking out only for their own self interests.

NRCC COMMENT: “House Republicans are once again leading by example by keeping their own spending low and freezing pay for members of Congress. House Democrats voted to increase their pay which proves they are more focused on padding their own wallets than looking out for taxpayers.” – Bob Salera, NRCC Spokesman
