SUBJECT: COLORADO PRIMARY RESULTS

By nominating yet another extreme liberal candidate, Democrats have set themselves up to fail again in CO-06. Mike Coffman has shown that he is an independent voice for 6th District families, while Morgan Carroll has earned the reputation as one of the most liberal lawmakers in the state. Simply put, national Democrats and Morgan Carroll appear determined to run the same playbook that failed in 2012 and 2014 and will fail again in November. Coffman’s background as a Marine combat veteran, his bipartisan bonafides, and substantial fundraising advantage put him in a strong position to win in November.

CO-06:  Mike Coffman, R vs. Morgan Carroll, D

Mike Coffman works tirelessly for his constituents both in Washington and back home in Colorado. Coffman’s efforts were pivotal in reining in the disastrous Aurora VA hospital construction project that made national headlines for astronomical cost overruns. In his role on the Veterans Affairs Committee, Coffman continues to press the VA to give our veterans the care they deserve. Additionally, Coffman’s background as a Marine combat veteran has given him a unique ability to work across the aisle and help lead the fight to combat sexual assault in the military. Coffman has also prioritized outreach efforts to diverse communities across the 6th District, including learning Spanish to better engage Hispanic voters. It’s these bipartisan efforts combined with his tireless outreach that ensures Democrat attacks on Coffman will fall flat this fall, just as they have in previous cycles.

Before deciding to run for Congress, Morgan Carroll built her reputation as progressive firebrand, advocating passionately for single-payer health care and taking many anti-business positions in the state legislature. Now that she is campaigning in a more moderate district, Carroll is trying in vain to change her tune. Carroll has also put herself at a severe disadvantage by taking extreme positions on national security issues, supporting the president’s dangerous nuclear deal with Iran and advocating for the closure of GITMO, even if it means relocating terrorists to Colorado. The combination of Carroll’s extreme record and inferior campaign apparatus give her a steep hill to climb this fall.

Overview: PVI: D+1; Obama 51.8% – Romney 46.7%. Colorado’s 6th Congressional District is located in the east Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. The Cook Political Report rates the race as “Toss Up.” The Rothenberg & Gonzales Political Report rates it as “Toss Up/Tilt Republican.”
