House Democrats Endorse Four More Years of Failed Policies

With Hillary Clinton set to officially become the Democratic nominee this week in Philadelphia, there’s no turning back now for House Democrats. They have hitched their wagon to Clinton, and all the scandal and corruption that comes with her. But Hillary brings more than just her personal baggage with her. Clinton’s campaign platform calls for the continuation of the most unpopular failed policies of the Obama administration. Unable to come up with any new ideas, Hillary Clinton and House Democrats have decided to run as the champions of the status quo.

  • Hillary Clinton has vowed to continue on with Obamacare, fully embracing it, and even taking credit for the idea, calling it “Hillarycare.”
    • Obamacare remains extremely unpopular among voters, with just 39% approving of the disastrous health care law.
    • Obamacare continues to cause insurance premiums to soar, with another round of double-digit rate hikes expected just a week before the election.
  • Hillary Clinton supports the Obama administration’s dangerous Iran nuclear deal, which Secretary of State John Kerry has admitted would likely fund terrorism.
    • Clinton has said that getting a better deal was “unrealistic” and that she helped lay the groundwork with Iran when she was Secretary of State.
    • Obama administration official Ben Rhodes has bragged about the administration lying to the public in an effort to sell the Iran deal.
  • Clinton would continue President Obama’s dangerous plan to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay (GITMO) and move the terrorists currently held there to U.S. soil.
    • The list of terrorists remaining at GITMO includes some of the most dangerous captured by U.S. forces, including 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed
    • The Obama administration has confirmed that at least a dozen terrorists previously released from GITMO have subsequently been involved in attacks on Americans.
    • Recent polling showed that 56% of Americans oppose the plan to close GITMO.

NRCC Comment: “Hillary Clinton and House Democrats have promised that if elected they will continue the unpopular policies of the Obama administration. Americans cannot afford another four years of the failed Obama-Clinton agenda, and House Democrats’ unconditional support of those failed policies will sink their chances in November.” – NRCC Spokesman Bob Salera

Background:

Clinton: ObamaCare was originally ‘HillaryCare.’ “Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton is out with a new defense of her healthcare record — rival Bernie Sanders may have helped write ObamaCare, but it was her idea first. ‘It was called HillaryCare before it was called ObamaCare,’ Clinton told a crowd of supporters at a country club in Vinton, Iowa. ‘I don’t want to start over.’” (Sarah Ferris, The Hill, 1/21/16)

Obamacare’s November surprise. “The last thing Democrats want to contend with just a week before the 2016 presidential election is an outcry over double-digit insurance hikes as millions of Americans begin signing up for Obamacare. But that looks increasingly likely as health plans socked by Obamacare losses look to regain their financial footing by raising rates.” (Paul Demko, Politico, 5/2/16)

Kerry: Some Iran sanctions relief likely to go to terrorists. “U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday it is likely that some of the billions of dollars in sanctions relief granted to Iran under a landmark nuclear deal will go to groups deemed terrorists…‘I think that some of it will end up in the hands of the IRGC or other entities, some of which are labeled terrorists,’ he told CNBC television in an interview.” (Associated Press, 1/21/16)

Hillary Clinton makes forceful case for Iran nuclear deal. “Hillary Clinton offered her most robust endorsement yet of the nuclear deal negotiated under the Obama administration between Iran and six world powers… The former secretary of state said the deal ‘blocks every pathway for Iran to get a bomb’ and that it was ‘unrealistic’ to get a better deal, as some opponents claimed was possible… Further, Clinton made clear she would be willing to launch military strikes against Iran if the regime attempted to contravene its agreement and build a nuclear weapon anyway. ‘I will not hesitate to take military action if Iran attempts to obtain a nuclear weapon.’” (Ben Jacobs and Sabrina Siddiqui, The Guardian, 5/6/16)

Hillary Clinton says she helped usher Iran to the negotiating table. “If it weren’t for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, there likely wouldn’t yet be an Iran nuclear deal, according to the former Secretary of State. While her Republican rivals who oppose the Iran deal might use that line against her, Clinton has touted progress with Iran as one of the hallmarks of her tenure at the State Department. ‘I spent 18 months putting together the sanctions against Iran so that we could force them to the negotiating table,’ she said at the MSNBC Democratic forum Nov. 6.” (Lauren Carroll, Politifact, 11/23/15)

Obama’s Foreign Policy Guru Boasts of How the Administration Lied to Sell the Iran Deal. “In Rhodes’s ‘narrative’ about the Iran deal, negotiations started when the ostensibly moderate Hassan Rouhani was elected president, providing an opening for the administration to reach out in friendship. In reality, as Samuels gets administration officials to admit, negotiations began when ‘hardliner’ Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was still president. It was Rhodes who framed the Iran deal as a choice between peace and war, and it was Rhodes who set up a messaging unit to sell the deal that created an ‘echo chamber’ in the press. ‘[Al Monitor reporter] Laura Rozen was my RSS feed,’ says Tanya Somanader, the 31-year-old who managed @TheIranDeal twitter feed. ‘She would just find everything and retweet it.’ (Lee Smith, The Weekly Standard, 5/5/16)

Hillary Clinton urged Obama to close Guantanamo Bay. “Just weeks before she stepped down as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton sent President Obama a memo urging him to close the Guantanamo Bay prison and offering strategies to do so, the Huffington Post reported. ‘I remain a strong advocate of your policy to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility (GTMO) responsibly and to ensure U.S. detention policy and practice for terrorism suspects are consistent with U.S. values and do not strengthen our enemies,’ Clinton wrote in the memo, which the Huffington Post obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. (Rebecca Kaplan, CBS News, 11/30/15)

Pentagon’s Guantanamo closing plan lays out costs, savings. “The plan, which will be delivered to Congress Tuesday, is the administration’s last-ditch effort to make good on President Barack Obama’s campaign vow to close Guantanamo and convince lawmakers to allow the Defense Department to move nearly 60 detainees to the U.S…There are currently 91 detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Of those, 35 are expected to be transferred out by this summer. The rest are either facing trial by military commission or have been determined to be too dangerous to release but are not facing charges.” (Lolita C. Baldor, Associated Press, 2/23/16)

Who is Left at Guantanamo? “Seven inmates have been charged with war crimes in Guantanamo’s military commissions, the judicial system set up by the Bush administration and tweaked by the Obama administration. They include Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the alleged organizer of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and his four alleged co-conspirators.” (Marina Koren, The Atlantic, 5/12/16)

At least 12 released Guantanamo detainees implicated in attacks on Americans. “The Obama administration believes that at least 12 detainees released from the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have launched attacks against U.S. or allied forces in Afghanistan, killing about a half-dozen Americans, according to current and former U.S. officials…But The Washington Post has learned additional details about the suspected attacks, including the approximate number of detainees and victims involved and the fact that, while most of the incidents were directed at military personnel, the dead also included one American civilian: a female aid worker who died in Afghanistan in 2008. The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter, declined to give an exact number for Americans killed or wounded in the attacks, saying the figure is classified.” (Adam Goldman and Missy Ryan, The Washington Post, 6/8/16)

CNN/ORC poll: Americans oppose plan to close Guantanamo Bay prison.“Americans oppose President Barack Obama’s efforts to close the detention center for enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to the results of a CNN/ORC poll released Friday. The poll found that 56% oppose shutting the center, while 40% support the idea.” (Tom LoBianco, CNN, 3/4/16)
