Democrats Oppose Needed Healthcare Reform, But Offer No Solutions

March 14, 2017

House Democrats are vehemently opposing real healthcare reform, yet haven’t offered a single alternative measure that would address Obamacare’s failings.

With healthcare companies pulling out of Obamacare and Americans’ health insurance premiums skyrocketing, Democrats’ effort to block much needed change is irresponsible.

CNN’s executive editor Mark Preston said on Tuesday that Democrats “have not offered any solutions” during a discussion about congressional Democrats criticizing the Republicans’ health care proposal.

Preston appeared on CNN’s “New Day” program where he criticized former President Barack Obama’s landmark health care law the Affordable Care Act.

“The current system is flawed as well and it needs to be fixed,” Preston said.

CNN’s Poppy Harlow interjected, saying many people only have one provider to choose from and said that the plans are not affordable.

“A lot of people only have one provider to choose from. They can’t afford it. They’re not getting covered. I mean that has been lost,” Harlow said.

“The onus also on Democrats, what are they going to do to fix the existing plan?” Harlow asked.

“Right, and they haven’t offered any solutions,” Preston concluded.

Congressional Democrats have castigated the Republican plan to replace Obamacare since the Congressional Budget Office completed its appraisal on Monday against the plan. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) cited the CBO report during Monday evening’s joint press conference, where they piled on criticism of the bill without offering any solutions of their own.

Pelosi called on House Republicans to pull the bill from consideration and Schumer went as far as calling it “un-American.”
