History Has No Comparison for the Failed Matheson-Obama Agenda
Democrats Racked Up the Most National Debt and Have the Lowest Approval Ratings in Modern History

Washington — President Obama is preparing to unveil a new spin with a historic twist for his party’s unpopular policies today, but history has no comparison for how badly Jim Matheson and his fellow Washington Democrats have failed. Matheson and his Democrat colleagues oversaw the fastest increase in the national debt to its highest levels in history, and they have the record-low approval ratings to show for it. Until Matheson and his Democrat allies in Washington recognize that new talking points are no substitute for new policies, middle-class families and small businesses in Utah will continue to see Washington Democrats attempt to repackage their same failed agenda.

“It will take a lot more than a new branding strategy for Jim Matheson and President Obama’s same failed policies to create jobs in Utah and get American’s fiscal situation back on track,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Unfortunately, the only things historic about the Matheson-Obama agenda are the highest ever national debt and the lowest approval ratings in modern times.”

President Obama will attempt to rebrand his party’s failed policies today by invoking Teddy Roosevelt:

“Obama will try to give a boost to both priorities and hone his populist campaign message on Tuesday by channeling former U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt during a trip to Osawatomie, Kansas.” (Caren Bohan, “Obama hones populist message to push economic agenda,” Reuters, 12/5/11)

The national debt increased the fastest under the Democrats’ watch to its highest levels ever:

“The debt was $10.626 trillion on the day Mr. Obama took office. The latest calculation from Treasury shows the debt has now hit $14.639 trillion. It’s the most rapid increase in the debt under any U.S. president.” (Mark Knoller, “National debt has increased $4 trillion under Obama,” CBS News’ Political Hotsheet Blog, 8/22/11)

The Democrats’ policies under President Obama are at the highest levels of disapproval for any presidency at this point in the election cycle:

“President Obama’s slow ride down Gallup’s daily presidential job approval index has finally passed below Jimmy Carter, earning Obama the worst job approval rating of any president at this stage of his term in modern political history…

“On their comparison chart, Gallup put Obama’s job approval rating at 43 percent compared to Carter’s 51 percent.” (Paul Bedard, “Obama’s Job Approval Drops Below Carter’s,” U.S. News & World Report’s Washington Whispers Blog, 11/29/11)

Despite the historic spin, history has no comparison for how badly Jim Matheson and President Obama’s Washington Democrat policies have failed. Instead of offering one new marketing strategy after another, Matheson and Obama should provide pro-growth policies that will restore fiscal responsibility in the wake of their failed agenda.
