#SOTU Fact Check: Obama Admits His Sequester Is A “Bad Idea”

February 13, 2013

President Obama just admitted that his idea for the sequester was a “bad idea.”

“That’s why Democrats, Republicans, business leaders, and economists have already said that these cuts, known here in Washington as ‘the sequester,’ are a really bad idea.”

Just hours ago, WH Press Secretary Jay Carney took credit for the sequester.

Take a look,  The Washington Post’s Bob Woodward reported the sequester was his idea and he insisted it be included in any debt ceiling agreement.

In November, Obama vowed to block any replacement to his sequester.

NOVEMBER 2011: “Already, some in Congress are trying to undo these automatic spending cuts. My message to them is simple: no. I will veto any effort to get rid of those automatic spending cuts to domestic and defense spending.”

President Obama can try and duck responsibility, but we’re going to hold him accountable for the disastrous effects his sequester would have on our economy.

His own Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said Obama’s plan threatens “programs critical to our nation’s security.”

House Republicans have passed two bills replacing the sequester, but Senate Democrats and President Obama have failed to act.

This is a question of leadership. President Obama’s sequester would be harmful to families across this country. Tell President Obama to stop his sequester and give working families some economic security.
