DOJ grants to state and local entities have also proved to be wasteful. Just this month, the Office of the Inspector General released an audit of grants given to Hartford, Conn. The Hartford Police Department used $10,000 of its grant funding for a pizza party and plaques. The Judiciary Committee has asked the DOJ to explain how pizza could cost $10,000, but this request has gone unanswered.
