NRCC Chairman Steve Stivers: I Hope Democrats Keep Doing Exactly What They’re Doing

June 22, 2017

National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Steve Stivers today appeared on Fox News’ Happening Now to discuss Nancy Pelosi’s failed leadership and the state of the Democratic Party.

FOX News’ Julie Banderas: Republicans are hoping to ride the current momentum to victory in the midterm elections. Joining me now is Congressman Steve Stivers, Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. Alright so, I mean Democrats have just lost 4 of 4 special elections and even Democrats as you just heard are calling for new leadership, including House Seth Moulton of Massachusetts and House Democrat Kathleen Rice you just heard there. At what point does House Leader, or Minority Leader in this case, decide that it would be for the best of their party to step aside?

NRCC Chairman Steve Stivers: Well, clearly Nancy Pelosi motivates Republicans. And that’s no surprise, it’s been that way since 2010. But the problem the Democrats have is they don’t have a problem with their leader, they have a problem with their message. They are talking about distractions, they’re talking about obstruction, they’re talking about resistance while Karen Handel was talking about fixing our economy, getting people back to work, rebuilding our infrastructure and fixing health care. Things that people that in Georgia and people in America believe in. So, I think they have a much bigger problem than just Nancy Pelosi.

Banderas: What do you think the Democratic Party has learned since the disastrous 2016 presidential election for them?

Stivers: Well, I hope they keep on doing exactly what they’re doing.

Banderas: You just want them to continue not to be doing a good job? So, I mean they have learned something I would assume, no?

Stivers: I would love it, Julie if they would join us in helping make America stronger, getting people back to work, rebuilding our infrastructure, fixing our health care system that is collapsing under the weight of the problems of the Affordable Care Act. But they don’t seem to want to do that. So, if they are not going to learn anything about helping us make America better, then I hope they just keep doing what they are doing.
