No, this isn’t a Joke: IRS Plans to Pay Contractors to Destroy 3,200 Hard Drives

July 23, 2014

Last week, the IRS admitted it destroyed the crashed hard drive that had Lois Lerner’s Emails on it. NBC also reported that the hard drive was merely “scratched”.

On Monday, news broke that they are seeking outside groups specializing in “media destruction” – in order to destroy more hard drives!

In the midst of a scandal swirling around a Lois Lerner’s destroyed emails, the IRS has the audacity to use taxpayer money to destroy 3,200 more hard drives, as well countless tapes, floppy disks, and reels from outside contractors?

This is just the latest disaster from an IRS that is unaccountable to hard working American taxpayers.

More from the Washington Times:

Officials also declined to discuss how the IRS preserves records on computers targeted for destruction.

The agency estimates the need to destroy at least 65,464 magnetic tapes, 3,225 hard drives, 5,856 floppy disks and 708 reels, according to procurement records.

About 500,000 pieces of electronic data— including cassette tapes, reels, CDs, hard drives and USB media — have been collected since 2008, according to the IRS solicitation.
