Lots of big spenders in this race

March 30, 2009

ALBANY — There’s a funding frenzy in the last days of the 20th Congressional District race, both in donations to both campaigns and independent expenditures by outside groups.
Since last Tuesday, over $1.1 million has been spent on independent expenditures for television and radio ads, mailers, e-mail blasts and robocalls from groups such as the National Republican Trust PAC, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Our County Deserves Better PAC, the National Republican Congressional Committee and a variety of labor groups.
Of the $1.1. million total, $321,746 has been spent on behalf of Democratic Scott Murphy; $806,721 on behalf of Republican Jim Tedisco.
The biggest spender, by far, has been the National Republican Trust PAC, which has spent nearly $500,000 in less than a week.
Here’s a breakdown of how much each of these groups has spent during the course of the race:
For Tedisco
NRCC: $817,681.10
National Republican Trust PAC: $779,306
Our Country Deserves Better PAC: $56,021
