Visclosky Gives Questionable Funds to Treasury

April 14, 2009

Indiana Rep. Pete Visclosky has turned over to the U.S. Treasury about $18,000 in campaign contributions that his campaign said came under suspicion after media reports of a federal investigation of a Washington lobbying shop with ties to the Merrillville Democrat.

Visclosky, who had previously said he would give the money to the government, reported the donation in his first-quarter campaign disclosure report, filed this week.

The report does not specify the origin of the $18,000, a small portion of the nearly $1.4 million the congressman has received from PMA Group employees and its clients since 1998, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. The $18,000 will go toward reducing the federal debt.
