Where in the World is Dan Maffei Today?
With Public Outrage Growing, Central NY Rep Doesn’t Want Constituents to Know Where He’ll Be

Washington Dan Maffei hasn’t had much luck lately when it comes to meeting with his constituents, so perhaps that is why he is keeping his whereabouts a secret this August. Growing public outrage over Maffei’s abandonment of central New Yorkers may explain the reason for such secrecy. In June, Maffei voted for Democrats’ potentially devastating National Energy Tax and he is threatening to do the same when it comes to Democrats’ passing legislation that will initiate a massive government takeover of the healthcare system.

Maffei is no stranger to voters who are expressing disappointment with his record, as evidenced by a July town hall meeting where his constituents confronted him over the Democrat’s plan for a government takeover of healthcare. Perhaps that is why this August, with Congress in recess and Washington Democrats forced to return to their districts, Dan Maffei doesn’t want anyone, especially voters, to know where he is going to be.

“Freshman Rep. Dan Maffei of DeWitt said he will likely focus on smaller events after his recent experience in early July when protesters disrupted a town hall meeting in Syracuse.  ‘We won’t promote them much to the press,’ Maffei said. ‘We are trying to set up enough different venues so that people can find me.’  Maffei and other lawmakers are emphasizing meeting with ‘stakeholders’ such as seniors, physicians and small-business owners. Or they’re doing ‘roundtables’ with pre-selected speakers.” (“Lawmakers to conduct healthcare homework,” Elmira Star Gazette, August 1, 2009)

“Behavior such as this from Rep. Maffei, while disgraceful, should come as no surprise to Central New Yorkers,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “He has consistently proven that he is more concerned with bowing to Speaker Pelosi and her partisan allies in Congress than with the welfare of his constituents. After selling out future generations with his vote on the stimulus boondoggle and voting for a job-killing National Energy Tax in June, hardworking families in Central New York should expect nothing less than total capitulation from Maffei when it comes to the massive government healthcare takeover now being promoted by Democrats in Congress. The saddest part is that Dan Maffei is refusing to man up and actually meet with those whom he keeps turning his back on.”

With Dan Maffei hiding somewhere in Central New York, voters are left wondering again today, where in the world is he?
