NRCC attacks Owens as Obama Democrat

September 22, 2009

The National Republican Congressional Committee is betting that President Obama will be a drag on Democrat Bill Owens’ prospects in the upstate New York special election to succeed former Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.)

The committee is up with a new radio advertisement accusing Owens of supporting Obama’s health care plan and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s political agenda.

“Central New York, surprise! You’ve got a present. It’s from Washington – new candidate from Congress, Bill Owens,” a narrator says in the ad.

“What this campaign is really about his keeping Nancy Pelosi in charge in Washington… Owens is lining up behind the big-spending Obama approach to health care and he says it will be his job in Congress to support Obama on the economy and health care.”

Owens is facing Republican Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava and Conservative party challenger Doug Hoffman in the special election, which is expected to be held in November.
