Richard Nugent Enters Young Guns ‘Vanguard’ Program
Top-Tier Florida Republican Enrolled In Program for Candidates in GOP-Leaning Open Seats
Washington- The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Republican candidate Richard Nugent (FL-05) will be enrolled into the newly created ‘Young Guns Vanguard’ program. The ‘Vanguard’ program will provide a framework for the NRCC to assist Nugent and other candidates running in traditional Republican-leaning open seats. It kicks off a working relationship between the NRCC and these Vanguard candidates, as well as their future colleagues in the House Republican Conference, in advance of the election.
The Young Guns ‘Vanguard’ is an extension of the NRCC’s Young Guns Program, which was originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI). The program has now become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Reps. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain very involved in Young Guns, working together to recruit and prime conservative leaders for victory.
Richard Nugent is a resident of Spring Hill and has honorably served the citizens of Hernando County as Sheriff since 2000. He has been endorsed by Rep. Ginny Browne-Waite, who is vacating her seat due to health reasons. Nugent will serve as a strong conservative who will continue to fight for the veterans and seniors of western Florida.
“As a Young Guns ‘Vanguard’ candidate, Richard Nugent plays a critical role in our goal to retire Nancy Pelosi and fight our way back to a majority,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions. “After months of high unemployment and racking up the highest national debt in history, the out-of-touch Democrat majority has repeatedly proven their inability to govern. In a time of economic disarray, candidates like Richard Nugent are committed to offering fiscally sound solutions that will get the economy back on track.”
By entering the program, Nugent will play a vital role in the NRCC’s mission to retire Nancy Pelosi and work towards winning back the majority.
