Benishek gets good odds for winning Stupak seat

Nate Silver at the New York Times FiveThirtyEight blog is giving Republican Dan Benishek a 91 percent chance of winning the Dist.1 Congressional seat.

Blogging for the Washington Post’s The Fix Chris Cillizzi ranks Michigan’s Dist. 1 as the 33rd most likely to flip party control.

He writes:

Republicans got a big break last month when surgeon Dan Benishek’s GOP primary opponent didn’t pursue a recount, despite being down only 15 votes.

Charlie Cook of the Cook Political Report still lists the Dist. 1 race as a “Democratic Toss-Up”

The Rothenberg Political Report ranks the Dist. 1 race as “Toss-Up/Tilt Republican.”

Last week Dan Krupnick, campaign manager for Democrat Gary McDowell discounted a Benishek-sponsored poll that showed the Republican with a strong lead. He said that McDowell had only just begun to introduce himself to voters via television ads.
