MANCHIN ENDORSEMENT: Gov. Joe Manchin III received the endorsement of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in his bid for the late Sen. Robert C. Byrd’s death.

“Governor Manchin has an established record of commitment to improving the business climate in West Virginia,” Steve Roberts, president of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release.

He has worked to address some of the biggest challenges facing large and small businesses across the state throughout his term as governor.”

Manchin faces Republican John R. Raese and Mountain Party member Jesse Johnson in the Nov. 2 election for Byrd’s unexpired term.

MAYNARD A “YOUNG GUN”: Spike Maynard, a Republican running in the 3rd Congressional District, recently reached “Young Gun” status by the National Republican Congressional Committee.

It is the premiere level in its three-tiered program and means that Maynard can build a winning campaign and meet fundraising goals, according to a release from the candidate.

Maynard is running against incumbent Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., for U.S. Congress in West Virginia’s 3rd Congressional District.
