Cheri Tales Chapter 2: Cheri’s Medicare Tall Tales

January 10, 2012

Welcome to our second installment of Cheri Tales. Cheri Tales is a collection of stories and fables about a desperate politician who will say and do anything to get elected. The tales focus on Cheri Bustos, a Democrat candidate running in IL-17. During this chapter, we will explore Cheri’s Medicare tall tales that PolitiFact called the “Lie of the Year.”

CHERI TALES: “Don’t let Congress take Medicare away…Unfortunately, Rep. Bobby Schilling and others in Washington have embraced an extreme plan by Rep. Paul Ryan that would dismantle Medicare ” (Quad City Times, 10/28/2011)

REALITY: PolitiFact Calls Bustos Claim The “Lie of the Year 2011.” “PolitiFact debunked the Medicare charge in nine separate fact-checks rated False or Pants on Fire, most often in attacks leveled against Republican House members. Now, PolitiFact has chosen the Democrats’ claim as the 2011 Lie of the Year.” (PolitiFact, 12/20/2011)

NRCC COMMENT: “The unfortunate reality for Illinois seniors is that politician Cheri Bustos and her Washington Democrat friends cut $500 billion from Medicare with their job-destroying healthcare law, and Cheri Bustos wants to make it worse. It is sad that Cheri is even willing to resort to scaring seniors in order to get elected.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Andrea Bozek
