37 Days Left as Obama Continues to Block Keystone Jobs

January 15, 2012

Despite Broad Coalition of Job Creators Urging Keystone Approval, Workers Are Still Waiting on Obama to End Bureaucratic Delay of Job Creation

Despite a vast alliance of job creators and local officials urging President Obama to stop blocking the creation of tens of thousands of Keystone jobs, President Obama continues to delay this immediate job creation opportunity. American workers are left wondering if President Obama will once again prioritize political payback for his Washington friends over real job creation:

INTERSTATE HYDROCARBON: “I am a small business owner and founder of Interstate Hydrocarbon LLC (“IH”). … IH supports the Keystone XL (“KXL”) pipeline project. KXL is the largest project to date capable of moving hydrocarbons via pipeline from Western Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. KXL will offer a safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible means of transporting Canadian hydrocarbons to U.S. refineries, which will ultimately benefit U.S. consumers, workers, and businesses by ensuring additional availability of petroleum products.” (Interstate Hydrocarbon letter to U.S. State Department, 7/2/2010)

PIPELINERS UNION 798 UNITED ASSOCIATION: “As we understand it, Keystone XL will create more than 13,000 high-wage construction and manufacturing jobs during the  project’s 2011-2012 construction schedule. Many of those jobs will be created in rural areas in our districts, where too many of our residents continue to find it difficult to find good jobs. With Keystone XL, they will have an opportunity to work on the project or for businesses that provide supplies, goods, and services for its construction and operation.” (Pipeliners Union 798 United Association letter to White House Advisor Valerie Jarrett, 7/1/2010)

WOOD COUNTY, TX INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION: “The Wood County Industrial Commission is a group of dedicated Wood County community leaders responsible for economic development for the county as delegated by the Wood County Commissioners Court. The Commission investigates and undertakes ways of promoting development of business, industry and commerce in the county. The commission promotes the location and development of new businesses and industries in the county and maintenance and expansion of existing businesses. We believe that increased economic benefits that the Keystone-XL Project represents are extremely important for the future development and prosperity of our County and the communities we serve. As we understand it, Keystone XL will create more than 3,087 Wood County high-wage construction and manufacturing jobs during the 2011-2012 construction schedule. Many of our residents continue to find it difficult to find good jobs.” (Wood County, TX Industrial Commission letter to U.S. State Department, 7/2/2010)
