Working Families Want to Forget Obama’s Record of Failure

May 11, 2012

Obama Admits that He Sometimes Forgets the Economic Recession, But Working Families Living With His Failed Policies Don’t Have that Luxury

  • President Obama told the audience at a fundraiser that sometimes he forgets the economic recession, despite 39 straight months of unemployment of more than 8 percent and the failure of the Democrats’ stimulus spending spree.
  • Rather than working to revive the economy, Democrats rammed through a government takeover of healthcare, a job-destroying regulatory rampage and even tried to impose a national energy tax that would have destroyed millions of jobs.
  • If Democrats think Americans will forget their reckless disregard for the state of the economy, they’re badly mistaken.

President Obama told the audience at a fundraiser that sometimes he forgets the economic recession, despite 39 straight months of unemployment of more than 8 percent and the failure of the Democrats’ stimulus spending spree:

OBAMA: “SOMETIMES I FORGET” THE RECESSION: “And sometimes people forget the magnitude of it. You know, you saw some of that in the video that was shown. Sometimes I forget.” (Charlie Spiering, “Obama: ‘Sometimes I Forget’ the Recession,” The Washington Examiner, 5/11/2012)

IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME: “DAILY ECONOMIC BRIEFINGS DISAPPEAR FROM OBAMA’S WHITE HOUSE SCHEDULE”: “At some point during the first two years of his administration, President Obama stopped receiving the daily economic briefing that he requested when he took office.” (Sam Youngman, “Daily Economic Briefings Disappear from Obama’s White House Schedule,” The Hill, 5/6/2011)

95% OF JOB LOSSES IN RECESSION WERE TO MIDDLE-SKILL PROFESSIONS, BUT OBAMA HAS DONE LITTLE TO REGAIN THOSE JOBS: (Mike Dorning, “Obama Fails to Stem Middle-Class Slide,” Bloomberg, 4/30/2012)

Rather than working to revive the economy, Democrats rammed through a government takeover of healthcare, a job-destroying regulatory rampage and even tried to impose a national energy tax that would have destroyed millions of jobs:

DEMS ARE STILL DEFENDING OBAMACARE AT ALL COSTS:

87% OF HOUSE DEMS VOTED TO RAM THROUGH GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER OF HEALTHCARE WITH ZERO REPUBLICAN VOTES: Final Vote: 220-211. (Roll Call 167, The New York Times5/11/2010)

98% OF HOUSE DEMS VOTED AGAINST REPEALING OBAMACARE: Final Vote: 245-189. (Roll Call 14, Clerk of the U.S. House, 1/19/2011)

OBAMA’S OWN JOBS COUNCIL SAYS OBAMACARE’S SHEER SIZE IS CAUSING CRIPPLING UNCERTAINTY FOR EMPLOYERS: “PPACA’s size alone makes understanding the law and applying it difficult for even the largest companies.  As one Council member observed, the law is nearly twice as long as Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Adding to the uncertainty, many of the most significant (and potentially costly) aspects of the law are not yet known – they must be developed and established through regulations.  These regulations must be proposed, debated, finalized, and finally implemented. The complete process will take several years.  The documents provided by members of the Council clearly show that this lengthy process creates uncertainty.” (“Higher Costs, More Confusion, Less Coverage: How the Health Care Law Affects Employer-Provided Health Care Coverage,” House Energy and Commerce Committee, April 2012)

PELOSI TRIED TO RAM THROUGH JOB-DESTROYING CAP-AND-TRADE SCHEME:

82% OF HOUSE DEMOCRATS RAM THROUGH CAP-AND-TRADE NATIONAL ENERGY TAX: Final Vote: 219-212. (Roll Call 477, Clerk of the U.S. House, 6/26/2009)

NOW OBAMA’S EPA RAMMING TRYING TO RAM THROUGH REGULATIONS THAT “EVEN A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS REJECTED”: “The EPA is seeking to impose, by fiat, greenhouse gas reductions that even a Democratic Congress rejected with the Waxman-Markey bill in 2009, and that would drive policy at least 13 years past this Administration. It’s all more than a tad authoritarian. Welcome to the Obama-Jackson Presidency.” (Editorial, “The United States of EPA,” The Wall Street Journal, 11/28/2011)

DEMOCRATS’ JOB-DESTROYING REGULATORY RAMPAGE CONTINUES TODAY:

WASHINGTON DEMOCRATS ARE FUELING CRIPPLING UNCERTAINTY WITH THEIR REGULATORY ONSLAUGHT: “Growing confidence in the economy is not leading to an influx of new hiring, as businesses fret about uncertainty driven in large part by Washington and growing fuel costs, according to a new survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“ ‘This survey confirms that slow gains in economic growth are being undermined by uncertainty over rising gas prices, an onslaught of pending regulations, and stalled pro-growth bills in Congress,’ said Dr. Martin Regalia, the business lobby’s chief economist.” (Peter Schroeder, “Survey: Uncertainty, Gas Prices Slowing Hiring by Small Business,” The Hill, 4/16/2012)

If Democrats think Americans will forget their reckless disregard for the state of the economy, they’re badly mistaken:

AP POLL: 56% SAY THINGS ARE GOING IN THE “WRONG DIRECTION”: (The AP-GfK Poll, May 2012)

52% DISAPPROVE OF OBAMA ON THE ECONOMY: (The AP-GfK Poll, May 2012)
