Mike Michaud – Received political payback for ObamaCare Vote

June 25, 2012

A new memo exposes the grimy details about the closed-door negotiations behind Mike Michaud’s big-government takeover of healthcare. Apparently, Democrat leaders were pushing special interest groups to help “thank” Mike Michaud, among other House Democrats, who voted for ObamaCare and against its repeal, choosing their special interest priorities over those of Maine families and seniors. See Footnote 91 where Michaud is included.

“Messina also forwarded the AARP a list of ‘top 25 targets list from house leadership’ that were ‘to get thanked with ads after the vote.’” (Energy and Commerce Staff, “Investigation Update: Closed-Door ObamaCare Negotiations,” House Energy and Commerce Committee, 6/8/2012)

Michaud has voted for ObamaCare which has forced families off their healthcare plans, caused their premiums to spike, and cut $500 billion from Medicare:

Mike Michaud voted for ObamaCare. (Roll Call #165; Roll Call #167, 3/21/10)

After less than a year and countless pleas from his constituents to stop putting government in between them and their doctors, Mike Michaud doubled down on his party’s healthcare overhaul. (Roll Call #14, 1/19/11)

NRCC Comment: “Maine families have paid the price for Mike Michaud’s allegiance to special interests. These new documents show it is crystal clear that Michaud has prioritized support for Washington Democrats over the needs of his fellow Mainers and was to receive political handouts for doing so.” — NRCC spokesperson Nat Sillin

OBAMACARE FACTS:

20 MILLION WORKERS COULD LOSE THEIR EMPLOYER-SPONSORED INSURANCE: “A new report from the Congressional Budget Office hands critics of the health reform law a great new talking point: Under a worst-case scenario, the law could lead to 20 million people losing their employer-sponsored insurance in 2019.” (J. Lester Feder, “CBO: ACA Could Jeopardize Workplace Coverage,” Politico, 3/15/2012)

BY A MARGIN OF 8 TO 1, EMPLOYERS EXPECT OBAMACARE TO INCREASE COSTS: “By a margin of 8 to 1, those who believe Health Care Reform will trigger a cost increase outnumber those who believe Health Care Reform will create savings. Yet the survey responses reflect that few employers have started to reframe employee expectations relative to Health Care Reform.” (“The Health Care Reform Survey: 2011-2012,” Willis, March 2012)

TOTAL COSTS FOR OBAMACARE: $2.6 TRILLION: (“ObamaCare: A Budget-Busting, Job-Killing Healthcare Law,” Speaker of the House John Boehner, 1/6/2011)

DEMS CUTS $500 BILLION FROM MEDICARE TO PAY FOR OBAMACARE: “It would cut an additional $60 billion from Medicare, bringing total cuts to the program to more than $500 billion over the next 10 years.” (Shailagh Murray and Lori Montgomery, “With Senate ‘Fixes’ Bill, GOP Sees Last Chance to Change Health-Care Reform,” The Washington Post, 3/24/2012)

$503 BILLION IN NEW TAXES: ObamaCare includes $503 billion in new taxes on families and small businesses over the 2010-2019 period, at a cost of $1,622 per person or $6,490 for a family of four over that period.
