America’s Top Economist Says Dem Leaders’ Tax Hike Plan Will Cause Another Recession, But Rahall is Staying Mum
Is West Virginia Democrat Prepared to Toss the Economy Over a Cliff?

WASHINGTON — All signs point to another debilitating recession if Nick Rahall does nothing to avoid the small business tax hikes and devastating national defense cuts that Democrats are threatening. Nick Rahall has consistently backed his leaders’ taxing, spending and borrowing policies that have failed small businesses.

“West Virginia families and job creators have been left without a leader as Nick Rahall remains silent while his party in Washington plots to impose new tax hikes and devastating national defense cuts that will spark a recession,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “It’s clear that Rahall just doesn’t get what it takes to grow the economy, and West Virginia voters know that they deserve better.”

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned yesterday that if Democrats don’t abandon their tax hike plan on job creators the economy will go into a recession:

“…fiscal decisions should take into account the fragility of the recovery. That recovery could be endangered by the confluence of tax increases and spending reductions that will take effect early next year if no legislative action is taken,’ [said Bernanke].” (Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, U.S. Senate, Committee On Banking, Housing, And Urban Affairs, Hearing, 7/17/12)

A newly-released Ernest & Young report exposed that Democrats’ proposed tax hikes will devastate the economy and cost more than 700,000 jobs. (Robert Carroll & Gerald Prante, “Long-run macroeconomic impact of increasing tax rates on high-income taxpayers in 2013,” Ernst & Young LLP, 7/17/2012)
