Sutton Draws a Line in the Sand: It’s Her Against Ohio Small Businesses, Families
By Voting to Bury Job Creators in New Taxes, Sutton Proves She is No Friend of Ohio Workers or Small Business Owners

WASHINGTON —
Regardless of the dismal economic news that threatens a double-dip recession, Betty Sutton voted today to inflict tax hikes on Ohio job creators and families in 2013 (H.R. 8, 8/1/2012). The Ohio economy has struggled under Sutton’s out-of-control spending addiction and now she is doubling down on making a bad economy worse.

“By voting for tax hikes, Betty Sutton’s failed economic policies take the win while Ohio families and small businesses lose,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Despite what President Obama and Sutton may believe, big government didn’t build the success of small businesses. But big government can destroy any hope of creating jobs, and that’s exactly what Sutton did today by supporting this massive tax increase.”

If Betty Sutton’s tax hikes go into effect the average tax increase for Ohians will be $2,679 per tax return and a total of $16.18 billion for the entire state beginning in 2013. (“The Effects of Taxmadeggon,” The Heritage Foundation, 6/2012)

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned that if Democrats don’t abandon their tax hike plan on job creators the economy will go into a recession:

“…[F]iscal decisions should take into account the fragility of the recovery. That recovery could be endangered by the confluence of tax increases and spending reductions that will take effect early next year if no legislative action is taken,’ [said Bernanke].” (Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, U.S. Senate, Committee On Banking, Housing, And Urban Affairs, Hearing, 7/17/2012)

President Obama recently said that big-government is responsible for the success of small businesses:

“‘If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,’ [said Obama].” (Kerry Picket, “Picket: (Video) Obama: ‘If You’ve Got a Business—You Didn’t Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen,” The Washington Times, 7/15/2012)
