If At First You Don’t Succeed…

February 20, 2013

Well, the writing was on the wall. Almost four years to the day after President Obama’s signed his first failed stimulus, he’s calling for a second billion-dollar boondoggle.

The New York Times is reporting this morning that President Obama is looking for $50 billion to upgrade “infrastructure” projects.

“A summary of the plan, which Mr. Obama is expected to discuss in interviews, was obtained by The New York Times. The draft sounds three major themes that Mr. Obama has discussed since he was first a candidate for the presidency, but with initiatives intended to engage in work that minimizes the need for Congressional approval and which can capitalize on private investment to help start projects.

“The first element of the plan is a “fix it first” policy that calls for investing $50 billion in transportation infrastructure, subject to Congressional approval. Fully $40 billion of that amount would be directed to work on the highways, bridges, transit systems and airports “most in need of repair,” according to the document.”

Because it worked so well the first time…

You’ll remember that President Obama and the White House promised, with the stimulus, the unemployment rate would be 5.2%. It currently stands at 7.9%. The stimulus alone has also accounted for nearly 15% of the $6 billion Obama has added to the deficit.

Of course, there’s also bound to be waste and abuse. Take a look at this list of the top abuses from the first stimulus we put together last week.

Here are some highlights:

  • $1 million for 250 bike lockers
  • $2.2 million for skylights in a liquor store in Montana
  • $600,000 to a school district in Kansas that doesn’t exist

President Obama and liberal Democrats just can’t learn from their mistakes. They simply want to raise taxes and then waste the money on yet another stimulus. It’s time to fight back.
