Bera, Ruiz & Peters don’t support 6 budgets, support No Budget No Pay

March 21, 2013

Today, as House Democrats banded together in their vote against a budget that would actually balance – the California freshman class of Democrats revealed an interesting trend: not only do they have no interest in passing a balanced budget, but they have no interest in passing a budget at all.

Ami Bera, Raul Ruiz and Scott Peters have not voted for a single budget proposal during their time in congress, despite having SIX opportunities to do so.

These same members have all been outspoken advocates and supporters of the No Budget No Pay act that would suspend pay for members of congress if a budget could not be passed:

–          Scott Peters voted FOR No Budget No Pay, and ran a paid advertisement during his campaign which specifically called for a BALANCED budget:  “If congress doesn’t do their job and balance the budget, they shouldn’t get paid.”

–          Ami Bera voted FOR No Budget No Pay, and ran a paid advertisement during his campaign

–          Raul Ruiz voted FOR No Budget No Pay, and has called the legislation “common sense”:  “Americans don’t get paid if they don’t do their jobs, and neither should Members of Congress if we fail to pass a budget. This common sense, bipartisan legislation will force Congress to perform and be accountable to the people.”

“The California freshman class of Democrats have campaigned tirelessly on the need for a budget but have not voted for a single one, nor have they proposed an alternative. Rather than offer the leadership, solutions and ideas they promised during their campaign – California’s most vulnerable Democrats have run from their promise and are falling quickly into roles as do-nothing members. California voters deserve better than this blatant hypocrisy.” – NRCC Spokeswoman, Alleigh Marré
