Anti-Coal Warriors: The Obama-Rahall Tag Team

President Obama and Nick Rahall are teaming up to clothesline West Virginia’s coal industry.

The President is set to announce a sweeping new climate change agenda that will, for the first time, enact new regulations on carbon dioxide emitted by existing power plants.

It looks like the President is taking the advice of his science advisor that it is time to “wage a war on coal.”

Of course, in West Virginia where coal is king, Obama is going to need a partner to help wage that war. And this year, Obama has gotten a big boost when his friend Nick Rahall voted for discriminatory tax treatment of the coal industry and a new carbon tax that would devastate West Virginia’s economy.

In fact, Rahall supported a budget with taxes so destructive that even Bill Clinton worries that there will be a massive outflow of American jobs to foreign nations.

But that apparently doesn’t concern the team of President Obama and Nick Rahall.

NRCC Comment: “When Nick Rahall voted for the anti-coal ‘Progressive Budget,’ he made it extremely clear that he would be a loyal soldier in President Obama’s war on coal. Now that Obama is ratcheting up his efforts to destroy the coal industry, he knows he can look to West Virginia and find a willing partner in Rahall.”– NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior
