The Recruiting Wreckage Continues…

July 8, 2013

Hey there –

Well, here we go again. Another recruiting wreckage stumble and fumble from Steve Israel and the DCCC. This time, with Iowa’s Former State Senator Staci Appel.

MostInterestingMan

Three months after deciding against a run for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District seat, citing her “family obligations,” she’s now filed paperwork to run this cycle for the seat.

Why the change of heart, Staci?

It seems that Steve Israel and his Democratic recruiting team are having a hard time finding a willing and ready candidate to run against Congressman Tom Latham. And that’s no surprise – Rep. Latham won the 3rd District by over 8 points in 2012.

The best that the DCCC can come up with for a Latham challenger is a candidate who has already dropped out of the race once. And last time we checked, someone with a 0 for 1 record isn’t exactly star material. For Israel and the DCCC, putting up Appel just to have a Democrat on the ballot and to save face isn’t a smart or responsible decision for Iowa’s families. What an embarrassment…

As you write about this newest recruiting wreckage, please consider the following statement:

NRCC Statement: “Staci Appel’s flip-flop candidacy is blatant red flag for Iowa voters heading into the 2014 election cycle. Her obvious insecurities about this race are a clear sign that Steve Israel and the DCCC are struggling to find a strong candidate to run in the 3rd District. Iowa’s hard working families deserve better than indecision and disorganization. We can chalk this up to yet another recruitment fail from the DCCC, and it’s an embarrassment.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Danielle Varallo
