DCCC Privately Worries About Obama’s Unpopularity And Economic Stumbles

August 2, 2013

This morning you may have awoken to a bit of a contradictory message in the pages of Politico.

On one page, there was DCCC Chairman Steve Israel’s “sunshine and rainbows” memo of where things stand in their race to make Nancy Pelosi speaker once again.

Exuding confidence, he boasted that Democrats were “well-positioned” for the fall of 2014.

However, another Politico piece poured cold water all over that optimism.

Check out this telling passage:

“An internal DCCC analysis has Democrats suffering double-digit losses if Obama’s popularity keeps sliding and the economy falters.”

So apparently the DCCC has two views of what they think will happen in 2014.

  • The first is the “everything’s just fine” spin coming from their public memo.
  • The second is their leaked internal analysis that foresees “double-digit losses” if the political environment stays the same.

I wonder which one we should believe?
