Not a Joke: Minnesota Democrat Collin Peterson Calls For 17% Gas Tax Increase

August 30, 2013

DERIVATIVES PROPOSALAfter being shamed into coming on the show, Collin Peterson joined Chris Berg on KXJB last night. During his appearance, Peterson doubled down on his support of a higher gas tax and went so far as to say he didn’t even think his constituents would notice. Peterson is advocating for a 17% increase in the gas tax (which is currently 28.6 cents):

If you have a nickel increase in the gas tax – you know these gas prices go 20 cents one way or the other day-to-day. I’m not sure it would even register.”

“Maybe paying 17 percent more for every gallon of gas isn’t a big deal for a Washington insider like Collin Peterson who has gotten comfortable with his cushy DC lifestyle. But this 17 percent tax increase would be a crushing blow for everyday Minnesotans already struggling to make ends meet in this Obama-economy. A massive tax hike on gas will make it harder for middle-class folks to get to work, run errands, and just live their lives. During his two decades in Congress, Collin Peterson has lost touch with the people of Minnesota.” – Alleigh Marré, NRCC Spokeswoman
