Obama Administration Paid $634 Million For Failing ObamaCare Website

October 10, 2013

When I was little, I went to an auction for a small nonprofit that my dad works for. The prizes weren’t extravagant, but being a kid, I enjoyed raising the paddle and getting the attention of the auctioneer.

I ended up in a bidding war with an older lady for a $20 gift certificate to a consignment shop (what an 8 year-old would do with that, I have no idea, but I digress).

I eventually won the bidding war by paying $19 for the $20 gift certificate. It took me a few years to figure out why everyone was chuckling as I walked up to claim my prize.

I had a flashback to that moment today when I read today that it cost the Obama administration $634 million to build the ObamaCare website. An astronomical sum that cost more than the sites of both LinkedIn and Spotify combined.

It gets even more unbelievable when you realize the original estimate for the site was $93 million.

thumbs-aloft

Maybe, just maybe, you could justify it if the site was stellar and free of “glitches.” However, as we’ve seen over, and over, and over again, that’s just simply not the case.

In fact, CNN reported yesterday that the Obama administration was warned about potential problems with the site before the exchanges came online. Yet they ignored the warning and proceeded anyway.

After the report aired, Wolf Blitzer actually said Democrats should take the Republicans’ advice and delay ObamaCare for a year.

It was a stunning admission of failure and shows that the idea of delaying this “train wreck” is gaining steam because it’s simply common sense.

But until that happens, the Obama administration is going to have figure out how they can keep this $634 million monstrosity of a website afloat.

In the meantime, however, let’s keep Kathleen Sebelius away from any auctions…
