Watch this Awkward Exchange After DC’s Democrat Mayor Asks Harry Reid Why He Is Blocking A GOP Bill to Reopen the DC Government

October 10, 2013

Harry Reid and the Democrats continue to ignore spending bills passed by the House GOP that would reopen the government put federal employees back to work – including one bill that would refund the government of Washington, D.C – in order to score cheap political points against Republicans during the shutdown.

Such a destructive strategy is unfair to millions of Americans across the country who are waiting for the government to open up again – now, even Harry Reid’s fellow Democrats in the DC government are asking why he is playing politics at the expense of opening up the nation’s capital?

At a press conference yesterday, Democrat DC Mayor Vincent Gray approached Harry Reid and pressed him as to why Democrats were blocking a House GOP-passed bill that would immediately allow the DC government to begin spending money again.

Reid’s response? “I’m on your side. Don’t screw it up, OK?”

While House Republicans continue to work to reopen the government, Democrats continue to keep the government closed in order to score political points at the expense of hard-working Americans.

From PJ Media:

“D.C. leaders have been arguing for budget autonomy — especially during the government shutdown. Yesterday on the steps of the Capitol, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray took the opportunity to crash a presser by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to press the issue.

“Reid’s answer to Gray as the cameras rolled? ‘I’m on your side. Don’t screw it up, OK?’

“Then Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) came down to fight Reid’s battle against the mayor, telling Gray that everyone’s got problems and he needs to be working to open the government.

“What D.C. wants is not an appropriation, but what’s already in the till for the District.

“‘This is about the District’s money,’ said House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.). ‘This is not an ‘appropriations bill.’ The bill that the Mayor’s coming to talk about today simply unlocks the District’s ability to spend their own locally derived money.”
