White House Quietly Moves Deadline For Individuals To Buy Insurance

October 11, 2013

In a sneaky move that the White House tried to bury, the Associated Press is reporting that individuals will only have until mid-February to purchase health insurance, in order to avoid the IRS’s penalty.

The original deadline was March 31, however the report determined that people would need to buy insurance much earlier to get the coverage in time.

This is certainly not the first instance where the Obama administration has attempted to move deadlines in the law’s implementation. In July, they infamously delayed the employer mandate—a crucial component in the law. Just a few weeks ago, the administration then delayed the cap on out-of-pocket costs. A real setback that will force consumers to pay considerably more for their coverage.

Yet one of the things they clearly should have delayed—Obamacare’s disastrous website—is still up and running (sort of).
