FL Dem Rep. Patrick Murphy knows his time in Congress is an “embarrassment”

Congressman Patrick Murphy told a room full of people today that the productivity in the House is “an embarrassment.”

Well Murphy should be embarrassed! He was sent to Washington to work but when the time came to vote for a budget, Murphy didn’t vote for a single one. The freshman member had six budgets to choose from and he didn’t vote for any. Let’s not forget that the families in his district wanted him to repeal Obamacare and once again Murphy did nothing and voted to keep it the law of the land.

We finally agree with Patrick Murphy that his lack of productivity is embarrassing.

Congressman Patrick Murphy should be embarrassed by his lack of productivity in Washington. Not only did Murphy not vote for a single budget proposed this year, but he has also voted against repealing Obamacare which the folks in his district are gravely against. Congressman Murphy is the definition of do-nothing and it’s embarrassing.

Freshman Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter, played up his centrist credentials at a business breakfast this morning, giving a speech that even Palm Beach County Republican Chairwoman Anita Mitchell didn’t criticize.

Murphy said the lack of productivity in the GOP-led House is “an embarrassment,” but he also spread the blame around during a Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches breakfast.

“I believe it’s leadership that needs to get shaken up a bit in Congress, and that’s on both sides of the aisle,” Murphy said.

Murphy spoke of reducing waste in government and promoting economic growth and called for “smarter regulation” with automatic sunset provisions. He called the Democratic Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 well-intentioned, but said it has been “stifling” to small and regional banks.

On the federal health care law, Murphy said: “That was passed before I got to Congress and I believe, like many, many pieces of legislation that are in place right now, we much constantly improve, we must constantly fix these pieces of legislation and that’s been my focus.”

Murphy, who represents a Palm Beach-Treasure Coast swing district, is a top target of Republicans in 2014. His remarks didn’t provide any ammunition for local GOP chair Mitchell, who was in the audience of about 250.

“What I heard at the chamber breakfast was a lot of small business, small government, less regulation and that’s a Republican mantra,” Mitchell said. “A lot of what he said is the Republican playbook.”
